These terms apply to votejohnbruce.com and to the John Bruce Campaign Alerts text message program, both operated by John Bruce for Melbourne City Council, District 4. By using the site or joining the text program, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

1. Who runs this site

This website is published by the campaign of John Bruce, a candidate for Melbourne City Council, District 4, in Melbourne, Brevard County, Florida. It is a political campaign website. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the City of Melbourne, Brevard County, or any government body.

All political advertising on this site is paid for and approved by John Bruce, for Melbourne City Council, District 4.

2. Text message program

Program name: John Bruce Campaign Alerts

What the program is

An occasional text message program used to share campaign news, event and canvass details, volunteer requests, and voting reminders such as registration deadlines and election day.

How to join

You can opt in by ticking the text message box on the volunteer form at votejohnbruce.com/get-involved.html and providing your mobile number, or by texting the campaign first at the number we publish. Opting in is always an affirmative act by you. We never add a number that was not knowingly given to us for this purpose.

You must be at least 18 years old and the account holder of the mobile number, or have the account holder’s permission, to opt in.

Message frequency

Message frequency varies. Expect more messages in the weeks immediately before an election and few or none at other times.

Cost

The campaign does not charge for these messages. Msg & data rates may apply under your own plan with your mobile carrier.

How to stop

Reply STOP to any campaign message to be removed. You will get one confirmation message and then nothing further. Reply HELP for help, or contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.

Consent is optional

Agreeing to receive texts is not a condition of volunteering, contributing, receiving a yard sign, or getting help from this campaign. You can do all of those without ever giving us a phone number.

Carriers and delivery

Supported carriers include the major United States mobile networks. Message delivery depends on your carrier and is not guaranteed. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Privacy

Your mobile number will never be sold, rented, or shared for anyone else’s marketing, and it is not shared with other campaigns or committees. See the Privacy Policy for the detail, including how long we keep consent records.

3. Contributions

Campaign contributions in Florida are regulated, and both the campaign and the contributor have obligations. In general terms, when you contribute you confirm that:

• The contribution is made from your own funds, not reimbursed or directed by someone else.
• You are a United States citizen or a lawfully admitted permanent resident.
• You are not a foreign national, and the funds are not from a foreign source.
• You understand that Florida law caps contribution amounts and requires the campaign to report contributions publicly, including your name and the other details the law specifies.

Current contribution limits and how to give are available by emailing hello@johnbruce.me. Contributions to a candidate for local office are not tax deductible as charitable donations.

4. Acceptable use

Please do not:

• Submit information that is false, or submit someone else’s details without their permission.
• Use the forms on this site to send abusive, threatening, or unlawful content.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its hosting account, or any data it holds.
• Scrape, harvest, or bulk-collect content or contact details from the site.
• Interfere with the site’s normal operation, including through automated submissions.

5. Content and copyright

The text, photographs, design, and code on this site belong to the campaign or are used with permission. You may quote or share reasonable excerpts for news reporting, commentary, criticism, or discussion of this election. Please do not reproduce the site wholesale, and do not use the campaign’s name, logo, or likeness in a way that suggests endorsement or affiliation that does not exist.

6. Accuracy and availability

We work to keep this site accurate and current, and platform positions reflect the candidate’s views at the time of publication. Even so, the site is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not promise the site will be uninterrupted, error free, or free of every inaccuracy.

Dates, deadlines, and voting information on this site are offered in good faith but are not official. Always confirm election details with the Brevard County Supervisor of Elections.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by Florida law, the campaign, the candidate, and campaign volunteers are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of this site or the text message program, including lost data or lost profits. Nothing in these terms limits liability where the law does not allow it to be limited.

8. Indemnification

If your misuse of this site or breach of these terms leads to a claim against the campaign, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of dealing with it.

9. Third-party links

This site links to places we do not control, such as the Supervisor of Elections and social media platforms. Those links are provided for convenience and are not an endorsement of everything on them. Once you leave this site, that site’s own terms and privacy policy apply.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The current version always lives at this address with its date at the top. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida. If a dispute arises, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it directly, which is nearly always faster for everyone. If that fails, the dispute belongs in the state or federal courts serving Brevard County, Florida.

12. Accessibility

This site was built to be usable with a keyboard and a screen reader, with text that meets recognised contrast standards. If you hit something that does not work for you, email hello@johnbruce.me or call 772-913-4080 and we will fix it or get you the information another way.

13. Other provisions

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and the campaign regarding this website and the text message program. Not enforcing a provision on one occasion does not waive it.
